Day trip to St. Petersburg

One of the world’s most beautiful cities, St. Petersburg has all the ingredients for an unforgettable travel experience - fine art, wild nightlife, an extraordinary history. The city is often referred to as the Venice of the North or the Paris of the East.

If you want to visit St. Petersburg, take a bus, ferry, train, or fly.

Helsinki is 368 km from St. Petersburg and the trip takes one night on a ferry. By train it takes 6 hours and by bus 9 hours. The flight time from Helsinki to St. Petersburg is 30 minutes.

An increasing number of countries are signing agreements with the Russian Federation to allow visa-free travel for their citizens. However, it is unlikely that similar agreements will be reached with the EU, the US, or the UK any time in the foreseeable future.

It is already possible to travel to St. Petersburg for up to 72 hours without a visa on cruise ships (on condition that you sleep on the ship and are accompanied by an authorised tour guide) and on ferries from Helsinki with St. Peter Line. If you take the ferry, you will have to book a return ticket and a tour of the city from an official provider and, if you plan to stay overnight, accommodation. On arrival in St. Petersburg, you will need to show proof of your bookings in the form of a hotel voucher and confirmation of payment. You will also have to register in the usual way. There are currently proposals to extend this opportunity to passengers on the Allegro express train from Helsinki.
