The Swedish speaking theatre performs both classical and newly written Swedish and international theatre, and theatre for children and youth. The main task of the theatre is to offer theater in Finland's second official language in the country.

The Swedish Theatre’s building at the Erottaja Square, at the end of Esplanadi, has been the theatre’s home since 1866. This great since 1936 functionalist building houses three stages. The Main Stage seats up to 700 spectators.
